Tax Cuts For Business .... The Right Thing To Do | Views: 1018 |

Michael Lemm | | It's amazing the kind of economic engine we could have if we simply stopped using taxes to satisfy our envy, buy votes, and punish productive workers. But as long as it's about "fairness", we'll lumber along being much less than we can be.
Read the rest of the article here (caution .... pretty long):

Reg Charie | | There is an error in logic in the article.
If you read "As rates are cut, investment money is loosened up, and jobs are created via these new investments. So long as there are workers available to fill those jobs, the tax base increases, more than offsetting the tax rate decrease. The result is that revenue increases.", this presupposes that the amount of incoming new worker's taxes will more than offset the amount cut.
Then they say, "Taken to the logical conclusion, the correct plan would eliminate income tax altogether,.."
If you eliminated taxes then incoming workers would not be contributing anything and a total loss of revenue would result.

Michael Lemm | | Good point Reg. I think it wasn't as clear as it should have been as to what "eliminate income tax" means. Or the direction they were going with that. They probably could have stopped before making that statement.
IMHO if you replace income tax with a consumption tax (which I'd prefer) "taxation" would be simpler and fairer. At least in my feeble mind (LOL). See Eileen's links for more on that .... and the Fair Tax.

Reg Charie | | Don't we already have a "consumption" tax? It is called sales tax.
It is more developed here in Canada with the GST (Goods and Services Tax) which is added alongside the regular sales tax.
The problems with this are in the administration and exemptions.

Eileen Brown | | Yes, but the fair tax does now allow for exemptions except those that fall below the poverty level. The fair tax makes sense for the U.S.
Getting rid of the IRS would be a HUGE plus.
