I would like to ask the SBTT members to please go and take a look at http://REMOVE_theboysdepot.com (Please remove the REMOVE_ ( I don't want to link this site yet).

Please treat the site like you were going to buy something.

I am concerned about the layout and am operating a click tracker.

Reg I clicked on the animated pics in the centre panel and they don't seem to go anywhere.

To me, the blue on the page doesn't match the banner at all. Not feeling drawn into the site to click on anything. It isn't apparent what the target market is. Who is this aimed at? People buying for little boys, people looking for cheap boys stuff, or people looking for extra special and interesting stuff that boys would like? (That third one is the one I'd probably be drawn in to click on something).

This I know. They should do something when clicked. Get bigger - go to the link for the product shown, something.

The banner is in transition.
I used to have the top nav bar in orange with blue mouse over effects.

Good point.. I have been gently guiding the client to having a bit more descriptive text on the intro.

Is there not enough being defined in the header keywords? Do we need to get more specific as to market niche?

How do prices compare in the market?
I have not done that research yet.

A non-Ryzer told me that she would like to see the ads get larger when clicked and go to a page with a discount.

Results are becoming interesting. I will wait until i have a larger sampling before I release them..

Dear Reg,

How are you doing?

My quick feedback is about the color scheme. IMHO, it needs to look like a kids' site (even if it's going to be used by parents or some others) -- it should be a lot more colorful. Presently, it's too corporate-blue-ish.

Another small thing I noticed is that when one clicks on a left menu, it loads the new page and expands the menu. Menu-submenu expansion, if given, needs to happen with Javascript/ AJAX without reloading the page, but that's not what you want, as you are changing the page contents as well. Since the new page has the same options as the expanded menu options, I don't think the submenus are needed anyways.

Just my 2 cents, if it helps. You are a veteran, and you might have already thought about these things.

Hi Reg,

I took a look at your site and had a few thoughts from a design stand point.

1. The header and the images take up too much valuable real estate. Even though the site looks like there is a lot of stuff above the fold, in reality there isn't. I was confused as to where to look. The navigation is out of eyesight on the left and somewhat below the fold, especially when expanded. I actually would have never noticed the expansion except that I read the above posts.

2. I like the graphics for the different departments on the right, but they are a bit lost. Looks kind of like an after thought and seem to be distracting from the page.

3. Why is my shopping cart info at the bottom of the page? Internet standards put it at the top right hand corner. That is where users are used to seeing it.

Overall, I get a lot of confusion from the site layout. I think there are some structural changes that can be made to make the site more cohesive on all pages, but mostly the home page. This page is supposed to direct the user down the correct aisle so they can easily find what they need.

I did a google search to find similar sites to compare. I found one that has the same basic concept of this one. http://www.childrenskidsfurniture.com/ It is well organized, has nice colors and graphics.

I know you want us to be honest, and I don't want to be too harsh, but it looks very amateur ("home made") to me. Sorry, Reg. I would only expect the same truthfulness from you.. :)

Stephanie
