Where have all the thinktankers (or is it tankthinkers?) gone?Views: 1126

Reg -- following up on your gracious service of supplying the links to my previous post -- neither of which managed to tickle any response: Could it be that the habit of providing all those links in discussion networks, might have one or more unfortunate consequences:

a. That people get tired of having to follow all those links just to be able to understand what a post is trying to discuss -- instead of the post making the point and inviting comments right there in the same place? Or

b. That people following up on all the links get so lost in the dizzying web-wilderness that they never find their way back?

c. Or both?

I am of course aware of the possibility that my post might not be of any interest to anybody. But what about all the other folks who used to share ideas on this network? Where have they all gone? Do we need an internet rescue service for lost surfers?

I am somewhat in accord Thor.
To this end I would ask that users not post a teaser and a link.
If you are going to discuss something, do it in here please.

Links in your signature files are ok.

I have also noticed that the boards get quiet during the good weather months.
I am decreeing an end to the good weather (did you have a good summer?) and want to tell our members to get back to work discussing the ins and outs of small business.

Greetings from India!

We all are here and listening in. Yeah, the discussions seem to be down a bit. I am also sure to have missed out on some of the posts, since I do not have the context of the links that you guys are talking about.

Business is keeping me busier. I joined BNI and am liking it more and more day by day. I am the event coordinator of our chapter and am organizing a social this Saturday.

(By the way, BNI is great for small businesses. I am sure some of us here are already a part of it. If anyone needs guidance, feel free to contact me.)

We are also making some enhancements to our offering for our recruitment software --HeadTracker. Presently we have pulled down the product site, but we are planning to be back with vigor. If anyone would like to help us out by contributing with suggestions while we are still at the design board, please let me know.

All in all, it's great to hear back from you all. Let's keep on the great discussions.

I've been promoting BNI for quite a while now, but this is the right time for me to be joining.

Hello Reg and Thorb and Teddy

Yes Ryze postings are down, not hugely, but certainly by a measurable amount.

So who are the members of the Small Business Thibk Tank?

I called on Ryze to give me 20 random members. Here's my data.

Homepage hits Networks Friends Guest Book
Top 988 11 26 87
1st Quat 84 7 1 6
Median 24 4 0 3
4th Quat. 17 3 0 0
Bottom 2 1 0 0

The table above explains a lot. Most of the members are hardly established on Ryze. They need help and encouragement. Reg and Teddy are certainly well qualified to offer that. The individual with 988 homepage hits hasn't been active on Ryze for over 12 months.

It's actually been interesting to me too. Because while the failure to join networks, the key thing I identified 4 years ago, is present in these numbers, even more marked is the failure to develop a friends list. That's something different about the tone and nature of Ryze in 2009. Something we can fix once we are aware of it.

I wonder about that conclusion re the friends list.

I joined Ryze the first friend invite I sent out I was summarily told not to send out to people you don't know.

Go figger. I tend to agree. I see no value in the friend thing on Ryze at all.

Hey Ashish
Are you going to be releasing your software with an affiliate sales plan?

Anyone interested in a bunch of very technical posts on SEO?

Ashish Belagali
Hi Reg and others,

I sure want to launch it for an international audience. I am not sure how to go about it as I have not done such a thing before. :-)

I am looking for all the advice/ guidance. As you say, affiliate marketing could be a way.

Here is a quick brief. The software is a web based recruitment management software. The primary target is the third party recruitment firms (aka recruitment consultancies) of small or medium sizes. The secondary targets are the recruitment departments of companies and educational institutes keeping track of campus placements.

We are planning to release it in two modes:
(a) SaaS : Use from browser, no installation
(b) Download and Install : Install on a server in your office

We shall also have consultancy as an optional offering. The consultancy will be targeted towards helping the recruiters become productive with the use of software and thus reap the benefits which will be quantitatively measured. Since it is more effective for the consultants to be based out of locations closer to the target market, I would also look for solutions by which I can quickly and cost effectively create such a team of consultants across the globe. Looking at BNI, the training and franchising model comes to mind. However, I am not sure exactly how that works and whether there could be any other models that may work well for us.

Thank you in advance,

/Ashish

I note, gratified, that Fall seems to have sprung and the impression of thinktank tanking was premature.

Reg, SEO being one of the things that have fallen victim to my masterful procrastination strategy, I wouldn't mind getting some nudges in that direction. But perhaps most people here know all about it already. Thanks.

@ AB (Ashish Belagali)

Have you considered using a video to showcase your product professionally.

Include an auto-responder in the process and you'll be able send a nudge or two and be front and centre when they (Or a friend) are more amenable to your product. ..... The fortune is in the follow-up.  More

You've invested considerable resources to get this far. .... Invest a bit more in productive packaging.

Teddy,

Sure, showcasing the product will happen in due course. The part of the equation I am solving now is how to structure the business so that it helps the end customers most and is replicable across different places in the world.

I was providing a couple of suggestions to accomplish your indicated goals for when that international audience comes looking.

Seems I may have misunderstood.
